Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more heat on its way. Just because the date on the calendar has switched over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a couple other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying comfortable too.
Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit
Debris can build up around your outside unit, especially during the fall. When it comes time to rake up the leaves in your yard, at least rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down quicker. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.
Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat
Keep your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still being comfy. Whenever possible, utilize other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your
thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that makes more work for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another contributing factor that could lead to early system failure.
