Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

We haven’t completely gotten through winter in Port Saint Lucie just yet. Mother Nature has provided us with a few nice days, but she’s always prepped to remind us that she’s in charge. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call us for out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall can bury your air conditioner in the snow, hurting its performance when the temperatures finally warm up for the season. Not to mention it can inhibit a high-efficiency system from operating as such. The situation could become an even larger problem too if you don’t plan for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are things you can do as a homeowner to help your air conditioner work correctly even though snow has fallen or could fall in the approaching days and weeks.

  1. Ensure you have a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Check the area frequently to be sure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that might have accumulated throughout the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, covering your air conditioner may end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner could be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, causing damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Port Saint Lucie will most likely go up and down over the last few days of cold weather, you can’t count out the possibility of weather that can impact the performance of your air conditioner. At Custom Air Systems Inc in Port Saint Lucie, we are always available to inspect any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re related to air conditioner service or adding a new system.
